Travel Snap: Bayon Temple

BAYON TEMPLE

Angkor Complex, Siem Reap, Cambodia

The hidden jewel of Indochina, Cambodia has successfully reemerged from their dark recent history by shining the light on their ancient source of pride, the Angkor Wat complex.

The whole complex is so massive and so impressive–it was so much grander and bigger than I had imagined! You might be familiar with some of the most famous temples (Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple and the main temple of Angkor Wat)–but there is so much more to see in this complex. It is 400 square km of temples upon temples. And there is an amazing variety of art, design and architecture to be found in each structure.

No words to describe the magnificence of the place–and the fact that they built all of these in 9th and 15th century!

It truly deserves to be called one of the most important archaeological sites in South East Asia. It is the ultimate display of Khmer genius and must be visited by every archaeology buff out there.
