Could Bali Be Your Next Travel Destination?

The world truly is your oyster when it comes to choosing travel destinations. But why not make your next trip one to Bali?

This majestic island in Indonesia features highly on the bucket lists of travelers from the world ’round. It has stunning forested volcanic mountains, traditional rice paddies, and – perhaps most desirably – stunning beaches and waters that make it the perfect picture of paradise.

If this sounds good to you, here are just a few different things to incorporate into your trip while you’re away!

Mount Kawi

You can’t visit Bali without taking a tour of Mount Kawi. Otherwise referred to as Gunung Kawi, this is one of Bali’s largest and oldest monuments.

Lying at the foot of a lush, green river valley, this space consists of ten candi (or shrines) that are cut into the rock face in an imitation of real statues. Each candi is thought to be a representation of a different member of the eleventh century Balinese royal family, and they really are something to behold, with each standing around eight meters high.

If you do book this day trip, be prepared for plenty of walking and ensure that you are ready to tackle the 270 steps involved. Also bear in mind that at least a sarong is necessary, as certain parts of the site are considered holy.

Kuta to Gili Islands

If you’re enjoying Bali’s beautiful turquoise waters and soft, powder sand beaches, but want to experience a touch of luxury away from where you’re staying for something a little different, consider taking a day trip from Kuta to Gili Islands.

The Gili Islands are an archipelago of three tiny islands – Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. They are home to coconut-bearing palm trees and some stunning coral reefs just offshore of each island. This makes them perfect for a spot of sunbathing or snorkeling.

If you want to explore the waters a little more thoroughly, there is also a dive center on each island! You can expect to see rich biodiversity beneath the waves year-round. Considering the small size of each island, there’s a surprising amount of choice when it comes to dining, with options varying from authentic Indonesian cuisine to sushi, pizza, Western cuisine, and a wide variety of imported wines!

Tegallalang Rice Terrace

For the best view of one of Bali’s famous rice paddies, you should visit Tegallalang Rice Terrace. You will be able to take in beautiful scenes of rice paddies incorporating the subak (a traditional Balinese cooperative irrigation system).

If you’re feeling a little tired of walking, not to worry! You can take the most of the dramatic views from a cafe bordering the paddies. If you have the time, visit the renowned local elder who owns and farms the land. He will invite you to sample his green coconut drink and has all sorts of wares for sale, including hats woven from coconut leaves.

These are just a few different activities that Bali has to offer. There are, of course, plenty more. But hopefully, these will serve as a good starting point when it comes to working out your itinerary while you are away!
