Harder Kulm-opening-hours

There’s a certain allure to reaching great heights, offering a chance to broaden one’s perspective, both literally and figuratively.

On our recent Swiss trip, we found that Harder Kulm delivers on that promise, and more.

Known as the “Top of Interlaken,” it’s more than just a mountain–it’s a stage set for one of Switzerland’s most spectacular sunsets.  Our journey began on the historic Harderbahn funicular, in operation since 1908. It whisked us up from Harder Kulm in no time at all, at 755 meters (2,477 ft) above the charming town of Interlaken.

The intricate wooden carvings at Harder Kulm add a touch of magic to the breathtaking views.

Ten minutes later, we emerged onto the summit at 1,322 m (4,337 ft), and onto a world transformed. Verdant valleys, the turquoise waters of Lakes Thun and Brienz, and the majestic silhouette of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau all formed one breathtaking tapestry.

Even better, we arrived just in time for its famous sunset. Witnessing the sun’s golden hues over the landscape was a masterpiece of natural beauty, capping off an already magical experience.
