Okay, totally hear us out on this one. We know that traditionally, some people might not associate observation decks with romance. But trust us, this one’s different!
We tried it out ourselves ━ and we found so many reasons why it’s the perfect spot for a romantic evening.

━ Breathtaking skyline views
First of all? The views are INCREDIBLE. You get to have an aerial look at Chicago in all its glory.
At 1,000 feet in the sky, 360 Chicago Observation Deck (formerly John Hancock Observatory) on the 94th floor of 875 North Michigan Avenue offers incomparable views.
When you step out onto the observation deck, you can see the whole city laid out before you. It’s romantic, it’s majestic, it’s beautiful—and it will be sure to impress your date!

You and your date will have plenty to talk about as you try to spot landmarks, both old and new.
On a clear day, you can see up to 4 different states – see across the lake to Michigan and Indiana, as well as Illinois and Wisconsin. Even the trip up there is an adventure in itself – 360 Chicago’s elevators are some of the fastest in the country, traveling to the 94th floor at 20 miles an hour!
There are not enough words that can describe how beautiful it is ━ you’ll just have to see it for yourself!
━ Sunset golden glow
Anytime is a good time to visit – but it’s even better if you can catch the sunset up there!
Honestly, it was quite cloudy on the day we were there, so we didn’t expect much. However, the heavens gave us a surprise and the sunset turned out to be splendid anyway━especially against the stunning Chicago skyline. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
There truly are few things more romantic than seeing Chicago bathed in that gorgeous golden glow.
It’s a phenomenal view as the city is drenched in the golden hour and transitions to the twinkling city lights. The lights come on slowly as dusk settles in—and it’s just beautiful!
360 Chicago has even got a wide tiered seating area facing the sunset-facing windows, to ensure that everyone has the chance to see the city in warm hues and watch nightfall over the horizon.
━ The thrill of TILT
360 Chicago is also the only place where you and your date can experience TILT! – Chicago’s highest thrill ride.
TILT! is an enclosed glass platform that juts out over the famous Magnificent Mile and Chicago’s famous skyline. It tilts you out over the city so that it seems like you’re just looking out… floating there above everything and everyone else!
We tried it ourselves and it’s an adrenaline rush for sure!
After all, it’s been scientifically proven that exhilarating activities that give you an adrenaline rush are more likely to lead to attraction.
So when you head over to 360 Chicago, grab your date and put some tilt to your night! It’s an exciting way to bond with your partner as you both lean out over 1,000 feet above!
━ Sky-High Happy Hour at BAR94
And you know what makes that view even better? It’s being able to sip some drinks at BAR94 right there on the observation deck.
Did you know that 360 Chicago offers one of the few observation decks with a bar? Unlike many observation areas though, luckily, there’s plenty of space and lots of seating areas up there. This really allows you to linger and soak in the views with your date.
Grab some wine or cocktails━and toast your love for each other and your shared appreciation for this beautiful city! We had a Captain America (a mix of Captain Morgan rum, blue curacao, etc.) and a Cherry Fire (a mix of spiced cinnamon whiskey, cherry juice, etc.). They even offer seasonally-inspired cocktails like the ones they offered for St. Patrick’s Day with fun names–such as Radler Snakebite, Green Mimosa, and Emerald Palmer.
It’s a great place to cuddle up with your date—especially if it’s cold outside—and just enjoy each other’s company.
